Downtown Fun

For two years I had wanted to take the kids to the planetarium to see a laser light show. Most of the shows they do on the weekend are shows the kids wouldn't necessarily like, but at Christmas time they do a Christmas themed show and I thought the kids would like it.

So Eric and I made plans and found a day that would work for us. The day that worked was Saturday, the 20th. We also decided that since we were already going to be downtown, we should go see the lights at Temple Square.

We got all piled in the car and discovered the car battery was dead. Luckily though, Eric had purchased a portable battery charger months before and after about 10 minutes, we were good to go. We stopped and got some lunch on the way and then made our way downtown. Because Eric works downtown we were able to park in his work parking lot (shhh, don't tell), and then walk a few streets away to Trax in the free area.

It was a fairly nice day. A little rainy, but not too terribly cold. The kids had lots of fun riding on Trax and we made our way to the planetarium. We got there fairly early and had to wait about a half hour before they started seating us, but being at the planetarium, the kids had lots to keep them entertained.

The kids and I enjoyed the show, but Eric wasn't too terribly thrilled by any of it. Until the very last song. He found a new song that he loved and it made it so he didn't think the show was a total waste. The song is Wizards in Winter by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

After the show, we went back to the station to catch the next train. We had to wait a few minutes, but the kids did pretty good considering. We got off at the Temple Square station and walked around and saw the lights. It wasn't too terribly crowded and I think the rain had something to do with that.

Because the kids had been really pretty dang good the whole day, Eric decided we'd each stop at the mall in the Disney store and a toy store and they could get a toy from one of the stores. Because it was so close to Christmas, the stores were insanely crowded and it took the kids FOREVER to make a decision. But eventually they all did and we made our way back to the car.

We decided we'd make the short walk back to the parking garage so that we could pass by an outdoor skating rink. It was pretty fun and I really enjoyed the time we spent together that day. It really was a pretty good day.

So here's a look at our day, complete with Eric's new favorite song. Because the pictures we took that day didn't quite fit the song, I threw in some pictures I found off of Google. Enjoy!
