After breakfast Velyn & I took the kids swimming for about a half hour. We then got ready to head to Mt. Rushmore.
It was only about a 30 or 45 minute drive and we were so excited, until we saw cars lined up 2 miles in each direction of Mt. Rushmore. Now we were not going to try and take 5 kids on a 2 mile hike. Forget about that! So I took a quick picture as we drove by in case we didn't make it in the next day. Apparently on July 3rd, they do lots of activities during the day and fireworks at night. Why they don't do that on the 4th, I don't know.
We then tried to figure out what to do, but it was lunch time so we headed to a restaurant. While at the restaurant we decided we would go to Bear Country, U.S.A. This was kind of a cool place. They have wild animals roaming free and you drive through in your car. Then at the end, they have a "babyland" where they keep the babies of these wild animals so they will be safe.
While in Bear Country, we saw a white wolf. That was awesome and Eric loved seeing that. Towards the end of the ride there were some donkeys and they just stood in the middle of the road. That was pretty hilarious. The downside to this whole adventure is that it cost us close to $50 to get in! Instead of having a per car charge, it is a per person charge.
After Bear Country we decided we would head back to Wall Drug to take opportunity of some photo op things they have there. At one point in this place they had a robotic dinosaur that went off every few minutes. We didn't know this at first, and so when it first went off we just sat there watching it. It was really loud as well so we didn't notice that Lex was crying until it was over. Poor kid, I looked down and when I took him in my arms, he was literally shaking. From that point on he didn't want to go through the hall that had the dino.
We then headed back to the hotel to get some sleep so that we could hit Rushmore early the next day and HOPEFULLY actually get in.
