Because I Needed This Reminder...

Posted by with 2 comments
... I'm sharing it with you.

There was a time in my life where I had a fascination with Precious Moments. So much so, that when I was looking for a baby book (scrapbook) I found a Precious Moments one and HAD to have it. Well, I didn't want to ruin the original so I decided to copy the pages so that I could use it again if we had more boys. (So maybe, techically it's a bit illegal...)

Anyway, so because this books pages were super shiny, the pictures didn't scan in well so I was on the look out for the same pictures, but of a better quality. Which then led to a number of books bought just for the purpose of having the pictures.

So, why am I sharing this: one such book is a big book of stories and poems and I decided to read some to Lex last night for his reading. And in last night's reading I came across the following poem and it was so very needed yesterday. I am now sharing it with any of you who may need the kick in the head as well.

I'M THANKFUL FOR BRUSHES AND BROOMS

I heard Mom say as she scrubbed today,
"I'm thankful for brushes and brooms.
I'm glad to clean my cozy house
That's filled with cheerful rooms."

I heard Mom say at the washing machine,
"I'm thankful for dirty clothes.
I'm glad that I have a healthy child
Who can play each day she grows."

I heard Mom say at the sink tonight,
"I'm thankful for dirty dishes.
I'm glad we filled our plates with food
Instead of empty wishes."

I heard Mom say in her prayers tonight,
"I'm thankful for problems today.
If life never got a little bit rough,
I might forget to pray."

(My problems yesterday included being spit up on multiple times, as you can read in my previous post.)

What's In Your Milk?

Posted by with 5 comments
Since the day she was born Ailey's been fed on Similac. She ate great and never really had a problem. She would spit up here and there and that was expected.

About a month ago she started spewing. Like an hour after she ate what seemed like almost half of what she ate would come back up in spurts. I wasn't too terribly worried about it, because she was still a happy baby and didn't fuss, but I still made a mental note to mention it to the dr. at her upcoming appt.

When I mentioned it to the dr. he didn't seem too worried either. He said she might keep things down better after she gets going on cereal, perhaps I could feed her less. He said she was growing well so I had room to 'play' around.

I knew changing how much she ate was a bad idea cause she'd act hungry an hour after eating, so I didn't do that. I didn't see much of a change after starting the cereal either. So because the dr. wasn't concerned neither was I until last Thursday.

I get am IM from my little sis asking what formula Ailey was on and if it was part of the recall. Recall? What recall? So, I looked into it.

...From Similac's website...

"Abbott is initiating a proactive, voluntary recall of certain Similac-brand, powder infant formulas in the U.S., Puerto Rico, Guam and some countries in the Caribbean.

Abbott is recalling these products following an internal quality review, which detected the remote possibility of the presence of a small common beetle in the product produced in one production area in a single manufacturing facility. The United States Food and Drug Adminstration (FDA) has determined that while the formula containing these beetles poses no immediate health risk, there is a possibility that infants who consume formula containing the beetles or their larvae, could experience symptoms of gastrointestinal discomfort and refusal to eat as a result of small insect parts irritating the GI tract. If these symptoms persist for more than a few days, a physician should be consulted. "
...........

After reading that I try to get on the website to check the recalled lot numbers, but the website is so hammered with traffic it won't come up. So Eric suggests I call. The first time I call the system hangs up on me. I try again and after a very short wait (seriously) I get a person. I ask for the recall numbers and he asks me for the lot numbers on my containers (I had 2).

Container #1 (the main container) WAS recalled. Container #2 (the 'travel' container) was NOT. Well luckily container #2 had enough in it to get us through the day. Eric was getting a new one on his way home.

Eric calls me from the store and said that Similac wasn't even on the shelves anymore. That was fine with me, I was leery of using Similac again. I told him to grab a thing of Enfamil.

Well Ailey seemed less spitty on this unrecalled can of Similac and I was getting hopeful. When the Similac ran out and I gave her the Enfamil, she adjusted just fine. I thought all was well and things were getting better. Not so!

Ailey is spitting up so much now and all day long! Yesterday she went through 3 changes of clothes. Now, I am not one to change an oufit after a tiny bit of spit up here and there, so for her to go through 3 outfits is a major deal. I was puked on all day long and never changed cause it was pointless.

So I am stuck with a dilemma...

Is there still contaminated formula parts left in her tummy? Is her body just not as accepting of Enfamil as it was Similac? Or is she just downright sick?

I really don't know. I'm kicking myself for not nursing. I didn't nurse out of pure selfish reasons. I hate that. I told Eric that at least I would've known what she was getting. When Eric said, 'Not necessarily.' But I would think that if I ate something slightly contaminated, my system would attack it before my daughter got it. But I don't know how all that works.

Le sigh....

Sailing, Sailing...

Posted by with 2 comments
We spent last night watching ships sail from one port to another...it was quite exciting actually. And that's saying something for someone not into boats.

Tanis was captain of a ship and it was fun to watch him command it so flawlessly. And if any of you think I am talking in literal terms...you don't know me very well.

Last night was the Scout's Raingutter Regatta. And this year, since I am not "in" Scouts anymore I actually got to watch it. (Last year I was stuck in the kitchen preparing the refreshment). Last year was also very windy and the event just wasn't great.

This year, however, lots of us from last year learned some lessons so that this year our boats did better. Tanis won ALL but ONE of his races which put him in 2nd place. He was so happy and was grinning from ear to ear. (Daddy was pretty proud too)

It's amazing what can happen when Daddy actually helps with a project like this instead of Mommy doing it. i.e. last year's boat. However, I did glue the sail on the mast and THAT is what really helped Tanis win. ;)

Anyway here are some pics from the event and I will have a video posted on Tanis' webpage when I do the update next month!

Talking Tunes Thursday

Posted by with No comments
My memory is functioning today! Yay!!!

Here's this weeks entry...

Read about Talking Tunes Thursday here.

Today's Song: 7 Things - Miley Cyrus

--- Teenage breakups are so difficult. In this song she lists all the things that really annoyed her about her guy. She then decides to list the things she liked and now misses. ---

I like this song because I can relate to it in a way. Every break up is hard and there are always things you love and things you don't love in a person. And you always end up comparing the ex to the current and you will most likely find things you miss.

I really like this song for so many reason. It's nice to hear someone sing with feeling and to be so open about things. I also like the music. It's just one of those songs that I'm a bit embarrassed to admit I like.

On the table for next week: 8th World Wonder - Kimberley Locke

If anyone else would like to join me in doing Talking Tunes Thursday - I would love for you to join me. I will email you the little 'siggy' (or feel free to create your own) and I can link to your blog at the end of each 'session'

In Case You Were Wondering Wednesday

Posted by with No comments

I really have too much time on my hands, I readily admit that.

I need to find something more productive to do with my time, but until then...here's another weekly (::cough, cough::) entry. I am calling it "In Case You Were Wondering Wednesday." In Case You Were Wondering Wednesday will be where I will fill in survey type things with answers about my life. Some may be serious, others may be funny, but they will always be random. Hopefully you'll all learn something new and if you don't want to - NO ONE is making you read it.

Here we go. Week one of In Case You Were Wondering Wednesday:

One, Two, Three, FOUR

Posted by with 1 comment
Yesterday, Ailey turned 4 months old!

I am a mean mom and took her to the dr. on her 'birthday' and of course she had to get shots. :(

I made her next appt. for a few days after her 'birthday' which then ends up being on my birthday. Guess we celebrate early, since I doubt we'll get to go out that night. Anyway, totally getting off the subject...

At 4 months Ailey:

  • Is 25 1/2 inches tall (90th %)

  • Weighs 15 lbs. 8 oz. (90th %)

  • Has a head circumfrence of 42.2 cm. (75th %)

  • Can roll from her back to her tummy (easily)

  • Can roll from her tummy to back (with many tears and cries of frustration)

  • Loves to smile

  • Can laugh out loud (though she's only done it a few times)

  • Recognizes family members

  • Wants to be the center of at least someone's attention

  • Likes to 'talk' with others

  • Sleeps through the night (Hallelujah!!!)

  • Is a pretty easy going girl

So, yes...my kids may be born small, but they get big FAST!!! Consider the fact that Daddy was almost 10 pounds when he was born and that may give you some answer as to why.

We get to start Ailey on rice cereal and within a month of her doing well with that we can start her on baby food! Yay!!! Hopefully it'll cut down on the formula she downs. ;)

Sadly, Ailey is also showing signs of eczema. Not nearly to the extent of Nathaniel's and not nearly in as many places. (And I am now realizing I never 'blogged' about Nate having eczema, but he does and it's HORRIBLE and it's ALL OVER the poor kids body***) Her's is just on her arms and the dr. thinks she should heal up with lotion. Other than that, she was looking and growing good.
So she doesn't have to see the dr. again for 2 months.

...These pics were taken a few days before her actual 'birthday'. She is still quite fussy and not feeling up to par today, so I'm not even going to attempt to get pics of her. Plus, these ones are cute and she's modeling a headband that I won in a giveaway from my friend Jenn who has an awesome hairblog!...

***Side Note: The dr. gave me a sample of something new to try for Nate and if it works and we like it, he also gave me a rx for it. So we'll see.

Why Do I Care?

Posted by with 4 comments
Here we go...

I am bit confused as to why a few things are bothering me lately, when in all reality they shouldn't. Thus, the question: Why do I care?

#1: This whole layout competition thing - I went in just wanting to get the free kits and totally not expecting to really get anywhere. So why does it leave me thinking I have no talent for this and why did I do it when I knew what would happen. However, I didn't expect to only get 2 votes (and no, I didn't vote for myself) when others were getting 30.

Guess that could've been worse at least 2 people thought I was worth the effort. That made me feel a bit better. And then comes the pride issue. I look at the ones that made it through and wonder, "How the heck did that happen?"

#2: After posting our family pics on Facebook and getting all sorts of compliments (mainly on the kids) I then get one comment from an aquaintance I had in high school that says this: "sorry shilo not ment for you." Now I am assuming that this person was talking about my hair. (I guess they could've been talking about any number of things, or they accidentally posted something on my pics, when they meant another person's pics...Only there's not a deleted post prior to that one, so I doubt it)

It annoyed me. I have no idea why as this person is one of the VERY LAST people I would ever go to for fashion/style advice. And yes, this person is free to have their opinion - but why say something like that to someone? That's something you should keep to yourself.

I for one actually like my hair and quite a few other people have said the same. I suppose other people could be lying to me, but why? The girl that did my hair (You ARE AWESOME BTW) loved how it turned out as well and had so many nice things to say to me afterwards.

So why, when someone who isn't really in the 'fashion know' tells me something isn't meant for me, does it bug me so?

#3: I feel like no one really reads this blog. Which again, shouldn't make me upset since this is my way of keeping a 'journal' and I am hoping my decendants will want to take a gander at at least a few of my posts, yet it makes me feel sad.

Yeah, I know that isn't anyone's fault but my own. It's just one of those facts that's hard to face when the other blogs I read have comments almost daily or followers up the wazoo. I don't really need a crapload of followers or comments, but to know there's more people reading this blog than my little sister would be awfully nice.

The answer to most of these questions is because I am totally unsure of myself. It's something I've struggled with ALL MY LIFE! And I am sick of it, but it's one of those things that is just so hard to change!

I had to laugh/cry the other night while I was watching a past episode of "Ghost Whisperer." In short the person that was being 'haunted' was looking for a certain type of love. The ghost pointed out that the type of love she was looking for wasn't going to be found with another person. In short, she needed to love herself before she could get the acceptance and love she was after.

It's totally where I struggle. Loving myself....It ain't easy.

Website Update

The website has been updated with August's happenings. www.hardyfam.me

And in other news: that layout competition? Yeah, I got cut, which I figured I would. But all is not lost. I got a lovely parting gift: another free digi kit! Which in all honesty is all I was really after in the first place.

Labor Day Festivities

Posted by with 1 comment
Let me start off by saying:
It's time for another good idea/bad idea.
Good Idea: Going to the zoo.
BAD Idea: Going to the zoo on a holiday like Labor Day

So yes, on Labor Day we had the brilliant idea to go to the zoo. Now, I figured it would be crowded, but I didn't know just HOW crowded it would be. By the time we got there around 10:30, the parking lot was already FULL and people had started parking on the streets and what not. It was crazy!!!

We still had fun and the kids enjoyed themselves. The changing exhibit was entitled "Nature's Nightmares" and the kids really liked that. We were able to see 2 vultures (luckily THEY were closed in) and also some fruit bats (They WEREN'T closed in) but because it was day time they were all sleeping in one big lump. It was still kind of interesting to see. We also saw a skunk - ALIVE. I see dead skunks all the time, but it was a first to see one still alive and not roadkill.

We were sad to see that the Savannah animals weren't there as they are redoing that area, but when it's finished they should have lots more interesting animals to see.

Lex & Nate were also on the carousel, but they chose middle animals, so Eric couldn't get a good pic of either of them. (I was with Nate)

Yup, she pretty much slept the WHOLE time!

She was a bit upset that I woke her up to eat...

The kids had fun playing on the playground and then we headed to my Mom & Dad's.

We were going to have a picnic at a park. We had had lunch around 12:00, so when we first got to my parents we weren't really hungry. But by the time we actually got ready to go to the park, I got a bit hungry so I went with my mom to Harmon's and grabbed some lunchables for my family.

We went to the park and just had fun visiting while my little bro played with the kids. Thanks Logan. It was just my family and my parents so it was nice to have that one on one time that we don't get often since I come from a large family. (No, that's not a complaint) It's just once in awhile it's nice to have a conversation without 5 more going on in the same room. :D

Happy Lil' Thief

After the park we went back to my parents for just a bit so we could visit a bit more. (We wouldn't have left the park, but little bro had to get to work.)

We left my parents around 7:30 so that we could get home at a decent hour since the kids had school the next day and Eric had to go to work.

Even though it was a crowded, crazy day - we had lots of fun as a family!

Family Pics

Posted by with 2 comments
On August 20th, we had our family pictures done by someone other than Eric's mom. (LOL - if you'll remember in previous posts I've said how I'm too cheap and what not to pay someone, well I finally paid someone.)

We had them done by a lady in our ward. Her name is
Cindi Braby. She did such a great job. She was especially good at getting pics of the kids, cause a couple of them were a little less than cooperative!

I am only posting my faves, but you can see all of them on our family website!
