The Eyes Have It!

Posted by with No comments
About a month before Ailey was born, I broke a contact. I was wearing hard contacts at the time and they were like 9 years old. (I had been in hard contacts since I was 15) I was out of luck. After hearing for years and years (from Eric) how much better soft contacts were, I decided to try it out.

We went to the eye doctor and because I only had my glasses to go off of (also about 9 years old), the doctor did what I thought was his best. I got a new rx and was sent off with new boxes of soft contacts.

I wasn't seeing as well as I did with my hard contacts, but I wrote it off as just the difference in the make of the contacts.

Life was okay for a few months, but then - just a few months ago - things changed. I suddenly started seeing better out of my old glasses than I was with my new rx. It made me crazy, but I didn't do anything about it because I had already used up insurance for the year.

Well about a week ago I tore the last lens I had for one of my eyes. Eric was convinced that the insurance had restarted (can't think of the right terms at the moment) and so I thought I might as well make another appointment and try to get the right rx. Plus, we had a family party to go to - with my beautiful relatives - that weekend and I am so prideful that I really didn't want to go in my glasses....So, ordering contacts would take too long.

Because I didn't want to go to the same doc as I did previously (I really wasn't impressed with him) I searched for an office that was open on December 23. The closest I found was the Target in Sandy.

So we head to Target and are running late, we get there and the place is PACKED. The lady tells me there are 2 people before me, but then they'll get me right in. I'm not sure how long I waited, but it was awhile. Eric took the kids and looked around the store for some items so he wasn't as bored.

I finally get called back and within 2 minutes I am already more impressed with the doctor. We discuss my issues and she does some tests. I had brought in my glasses and old contact boxes in case I was just nuts and my contacts were better than my glasses.

After her tests and looking at my glasses and contacts, she said, "Well, there's one problem. These contacts aren't astigmatism contacts and yet your eye has a bit of an astigmatism to it and your glasses also have some astigmatism correction to them."

She then went to get the updated rx for me to try out. I put the contacts in and was amazed at how clearly I was seeing! It was instantaneous and then very clear to me that there isn't any difference in contacts - the dr. I went to previously just wasn't very thorough.

I thought it odd that my contacts didn't have the astigmatism correction in it, however, because the previous dr. mentioned the same thing about my eyes. So either he failed to write the astigmatism on the paper he handed his office help or the office help didn't look at the paper closely enough.

Either way, we had to pay for the new contacts because my insurance hadn't started over, but it was money well spent. I am so much happier now that I can see like I used to. I would say that if anyone is looking for a good eye dr., go to the Target in Sandy. That dr. was so thorough and listened to my complaints and checked everything out.

Yay for seeing!!

Christmas Countdown - Day 19 & Day 20 (December 23 & December 24)

"But I have commanded you to bring up your children in light and truth."

Doctrine and Covenants 93: 40

This was chosen for my niece, Makayla. Her mom said this: "Both of my children are a light to me and reinforce the truthfulness of the gospel."

- Because I was behind we had to open two gifts this night... -

"For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."

"Whatever principle of intelligence we attain to in this life, it will rise with us in the resurrection."

"And if a person gains more knowledge and intelligence in this life through his dilligence and obedience than another, he will have so much the advantage in the world to come."

Doctrine and Covenants 130: 18 & 19

Being that my sister was pregnant with my nephew, Carson, at the time my mom put this together, she didn't have a personality to go off of, only her feelings. She said this: "Female roles did not begin on earth, and they do not end here. A woman who treasures motherhood on earth will treasure motherhood in the world to come. By developing a mother heart, each girl and woman prepares for her divine, eternal mission of motherhood. This is my hope for motherhood."

The gifts: Candles (Makayla), Treasure Chest (Carson)

"She is more precious than rubies; and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared to her."

"Her ways are of pleasantness and all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to them that lay hold on her; and happy is everyone who retaineth her."

Proverbs 3: 15 & 18

I chose these scriptures for Ailey. The first one is because I am so happy to have her in our lives. I realize how blessed I am to have the priviledge to raise another daughter of God.

The second one describes Ailey's personality. She is such a good little baby. So calm and patient. She loves to be around her siblings and her daddy. She always has a smile for us and definitely makes us happy.

The gift: A Package of 'rubies'

That's All, Folks

Okay, I just posted 13 days worth of blog posts in one night!

I apologize to all of you who may have been hammered with the posts on Facebook. I am done now.

I had to get the Christmas Countdown up to date. Even if none of you read it - as I've stated before, this blog also serves as my journal so I needed to update it.

I've been crazy busy working on projects for Christmas and blogging just was NOT at the top of my list. But now that the projects are 'mostly' complete (isn't that sad - Christmas is 3 days away and I'm STILL working on gifts?) I had time for an update.

Within the next couple days I'll keep updating the countdown, but I also have a couple fun posts to make. One will make my little sister very happy!
I will share one project with you before Christmas as it wasn't a gift for anyone per se. The rest of the projects will be shared after Christmas.

Anyway, if you feel like checking out the countdown - do so. If not? No skin off my nose. But there are some fun pics in the countdown posts, so if you need a laugh - go ahead and just peruse the pictures.

Have a good night, y'all.

The wonderful song of today: Jesus Wants Me For A Sunbeam

This is Nate's ::cough, cough:: favorite song....Okay, so maybe it's not his favorite song - but it's the only one I ever witnessed him attempt to sing in Nursery at the time my mom asked for his favorite song. So who knows. When he is old he can correct me and let you all know what his favorite song was when he was two!

The Gift: A Big Sun Ornament and tiny little sun magnets for each of the kids
(I apologize for Lex sharing his dinner with you all...That boy is a dirt/food/mess magnet... And even if Nate's favorite song isn't Jesus Wants Me For A Sunbeam, he at least likes the 'toys')

Winning song for today: Nephi's Courage

This is my nephew Tyler's favorite song. I wish I could say more, but I don't know more...I'm sure he is very animated when he sings this song as well - because this boy is just plain and simple an animated character. But, I love him anyway!

The gift: A boat decoration with the words 'go' and 'do' on it and erasers that say "God is My Coach."
(Apparently daemons have attacked my 6 year old and 7 month old...Crazy)

Song chosen for today: I Love To See The Temple

Lex's favorite song. He's not just saying that either. This boy LOVES to see temples, he gets so excited and animated everytime we drive by one and if it happens to be one of the two that we had the opportunity to tour before they were dedicated, he is ecstatic and lets us know that he's been in there. I also LOVE LOVE LOVE to hear him sing this song. He does a great job and sings it so very reverently.

The Gift: A picture of a temple that says, "If You Can See The Temple, You Are Never Lost"

Today's song: Once There Was A Snowman

This song is Shaylynnie's favorite song. I know, real spiritual, right? I think she kinda missed the boat on the whole idea here, but what can I say - she really likes her snowmen!

The Gift: Felt Snowmen
(The first picture is so cute of the kids, but Nathaniel had the snowmen hiding, when Tanis told him to hold the snowmen up, Nathaniel wasn't too happy about it.)

Okay, so because the adults scriptures are all finished now, my mom thought it'd be nice to use the little kids' favorite primary song and asked the parents to find a scripture or something that describes the babies. Just keep that in mind for these next few days.

First song selection:
I Am A Child Of God

This is Tanis' favorite Primary song. He's got good taste in music. hehehe....

The Gift: A Picture of Christ with A Child

"Behold, they have sought to destroy you; yea, even the man in whom you have trusted has sought to destroy you."

Doctrine and Covenants 10:6

This is my baby brother, Logan's fave scripture.

Logan says: "Satan may use the people we trust the most to break us down - we need to be on guard. Likewise, God uses the people we trust the most to build us up."

Can I just say how amazed I am at my little bro? He is growing up and it kinda makes me sad.

The gift: A 'Caution' sign
(I believe both little boys were being buggers, so they didn't want to cooperate for pics)

"And Jesus looking upon them saith, 'with men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible'."

Mark 10:27

This comes from my beautiful lil' sis, Kaeloni.

She says: "I doubt myself a lot in different aspects of life; raising kids, being creative, etc. This tells me I need to rely more on God and that with him I can do anything I set my mind to."

The gift: A sign that says: "With God All Is Possible."
(Not sure why my daughter looks so out of it in the first pic...)

And just for the record: I think my sis is uber creative and is doing GREAT raising her little ones.

"Yea, verily, verily I say unto you, if all men had been, and were, and ever would be, like unto Moroni, behold the very powers of hell would have been shaken forever; yea, the devil would never have the power over the hearts of the children of me."

Alma 48:17

This comes from my brother-in-law, Cody.

Cody's words of wisdom: "If we were all like Moroni the devil would have no power. This says a lot about the kind of person that we need to be. If we are following the example of Moroni then we can get to the point where the devil has little or no power over us."

The gift: a salt/pepper shaker with Moroni's qualities listed

MORONI'S QUALITIES

- Taught his people to be faithful
- Was firm in his faith in Christ
- Believed the Lord would protect the Faithful
- Resisted iniquity
- Had a perfect understanding
- Was thankful for the many privileges and blessings the Lord bestowed on his people
- Labored for the welfare and safety of his people
- Supported liberty, family and peace
- Was against bondage and slavery
- Never gave an offense or raised the sword except to preserve lives
- Did not delight in bloodshed

"I...., having been born of goodly parents, therefore I was taught somewhat in all the learning of my father; and having seen many afflictions in the course of my days, nevertheless, having been highly favored of the Lord in all my days; yea, having had a great knowledge of the goodness and mysteries of God.."

1 Nephi 1:1

This is my wonderful hubby's fave scripture.

When I was asking why he chose this scripture I asked him if it was because it was just the first scripture in the Book of Mormon, which was an easy out. He explained himself out of it, though all he could tell my mom was: "I have always liked this scripture."

Yep, that's my guy - so very full of words.

The gift was a mom and dad figure holding on to a 'Bible'
(Ignore the fact that my child isn't dressed...I forgot to do the countdown the night before, so we did it before school and we were running out of time. I assure you the kid did get dressed that day...)
