Nebraska: Day 1 - Friday, July 1, 2011

We left bright and early Friday morning. We were travelling with Eric's parents so we had to drive to their house where we were going to switch vehicles. We ended up leaving about an hour later than we had planned to (Eric didn't wake me up), but it ended up okay as Eric's parents weren't quite ready yet, either.

We were on the road about 9:30 a.m. Because we were taking 2 vechicles the kids split off. Tanis & Shaylyn went with Eric's parents in "The Reading Car" and Lex and the two little ones came with us in "The Noisy Car." This worked out pretty good. Lex had the whole back seat to himself and because Eric's parents van is equipped with a DVD player the little boys could watch movies the whole way.

The plan was to drive to Sidney, Nebraska where the hotel was. Eric's dad had thought about things to do and thought it'd be cool to see THE Cabela's store. Like the 1st one, where the offices are and what not, so he planned for a hotel right by there.

We made a stop at the Walmart in Rock Springs, Wyoming for a few necessities that we needed. I could've waited till later in the day, but for whatever reason we stopped in Wyoming. Wyoming has some interesting people living there. I'll leave it at that. :)

Between the rest stops, gas stops and stopping to make lunch we got to Sidney around 8:00 p.m. That meant that we wouldn't see Cabela's that night, but we decided we'd go in the morning. We stopped at a Dairy Queen for dinner. I think all the kids but 1 ordered grilled cheese. We then followed up with desserts, I opted not to get one - but then had to eat Nate's cone as he took 2 or 3 licks and decided he was done. He had a chocolate/vanilla cone, which was difficult to eat as I'm not a fan of chocolate ice cream.

During dessert I looked at Eric's back and noticed he had a HUGE spider on his back. Little spiders don't bother me, but big spiders freak me out. Eric just hates spiders PERIOD. So I started freaking out, and then he was freaking out. I think it was Eric's mom who had to take care of the stupid thing. Eric decided we weren't going to Dairy Queen again for the rest of the trip.

After dinner we headed to the hotel. The kids of course wanted to swim, so I checked how late the pool was open and found that it was open until 11:00. So even though it was like 9:30/10:00 at night - we went swimming. Eric's Dad came and joined us a few minutes later. We had a nice time though Nate decided to just sit at one of the tables and not join us for anything. When we decided we'd had enough, we went back to our room and went to bed.
