Luckily, we remembered this year and Shaylyn knew exactly what she wanted to do. She was curious to see if dogs really preferred their treats over their dog food. Simple enough and it only cost us about $10 for the different treats.
Her plan was simple. She'd build a fort and then put the dog food in one place and the treats in another. We'd then get the dog and let her go through the fort and see which she went to first.
...Ignore the ugly carpet. It's just carpet remnants from friend's homes since we haven't finished the basement yet...
Shaylyn tested each treat, doing one type of treat a day. The Beef & Cheese flavor Flower found 3 times out of 3. The Chicken flavor she ended up going to her food 2 times out of 3 and with the Bacon it was a 3 out of 3 for the bacon.
I love that Shaylyn is such a self starter and can do these things on her own. She did her own research and typed her report. I just typed off the pages for her to put on her board, but she did it all by herself. Yay!
The Science Fair was on January 31st and it was so much better organized than Tanis' was. There were also A LOT more entries than the year Tanis did it. I didn't think Shaylyn would win anything, not because she didn't have a great project, it was just the sheer numbers of entries and there were quite a lot of animal behavior type projects this year.
She didn't win anything, but she was okay with that. She just had fun doing the project. Me, I'm just glad it's done and over with for another 2 years.
