There's This Thing...

Posted by with 2 comments
So about two years ago we had this situation where Shaylyn didn't show me a note from school about celebrating Dr. Seuss' birthday and being able to dress up for it. So that morning I had to pull something together. The original post is here.

Thursday morning Lex tells me that he has a note for me in his backpack. He looks for a minute and then says that it's not in there. I don't think much about it until I get onto Facebook and someone is saying they are making their kid a Grinch costume for tomorrow.

Now this kid is in Lex's school class, so I asked this person if she was making it for school and explained that I had a feeling I didn't get notified of something. She replies that yes, it was for school and that they were celebrating Dr. Seuss' birthday and the kids could dress up.

Luckily it was early in the morning when I found out so I was able to go to the store that afternoon. I figured since Lex is a boy the easiest thing to do would be to make him a Thing. I also had this idea that I would make each of the kids a Thing shirt.

I found a red shirt in both Tanis and Lex's size, but couldn't find the right type of shirt for the other kids, so I bagged the idea and just stuck with Lex's. I found iron on transfer paper for dark colored fabric that works IN THE PRINTER! I also found a blue ski cap thing to work as the hair. I tried to find red sweatpants or something, but our Walmart SERIOUSLY needs to get more clothing in the boys section!

At home I made the circle thing and got to work transferring it to the t-shirt. Such seriously hard work. LOL. We also decided that since we couldn't find red sweatpants he'd just use some pj bottoms. I thought the whole get up didn't turn out as great as I imagined in my head, but Lex was THRILLED. Yay!!! And we spent less that $10 which was also a good thing.
When I went to Lex's class there were A BUNCH of THINGS there, but some not quite as 'extravagant' as Lex's, a few that were a little more 'extravagant' - so all in all I didn't feel too bad.

Anyway here's my THING (He's quite possibly my most favorite THING ever!!!):

Medicine, Man

A couple Sunday's ago I noticed that Tanis' finger looked a little sore and red. I told him we should have grandma (Eric's mom is a nurse) look at it before we left her house. Well, once again I forgot. So it went untreated.

Throughout the week it started to look worse and worse. Eric had decided that if it didn't look better in the next day or two (with Neosporin being put on it regularly) then we would take him in to get it looked at.

Well, we were having dinner at Eric's parents house again, and I actually remembered to have Eric's mom take a look at the finger. She immediately says that it is incredibly infected and we should take him that night.

So after dinner and after visiting for awhile we took a trip to Instacare. Ailey was running a high fever as well, so we figured kill two birds with one stone.

When they got us back and while the nurse was doing all the vitals, she then asked Tanis, "So what are we seeing you for today?"

Lex replies: "He's INFECTED!"

That was hilarious and we all started laughing. We explained to her that Tanis' finger was infected, she took one look at it and said, "Ouch."

The doctor sees us almost immediately and gives Tanis an rx for an antibiotic and tells us that Ailey probably just has a virus. UGH - we spent $90 for 2 minutes of his time. Ay yi yi.

As of today, Ailey feels more like herself and Tanis has to take 15 ml (3 teaspoons) of his antibiotic 3 times daily. Thankfully, he understands what it is doing so he takes it willingly even though he hates the taste.

This is Tanis' finger today:

I feel bad we put it off so long. And to think it all started from a hangnail. Poor kid!

Procrastination Never Pays Off...

So......yesterday was the big day for Tanis. The day of the District Science Fair. Because of the way they had the night planned out, I had planned to just stay at my sister's place and go back and forth from her house to the school.

So at 4:00 I headed out with Tanis and Lex (Eric would be bringing the other 3 kids with him later). We arrived at the school about a quarter to 5:00 to get Tanis all checked in and set up. The time for the check in and set up was from 3:00 to 5:00, so we cut it close, but there was A TON of people in the same boat as us, so I was relieved. The judging without students was to take place from 5:00 - 6:30.

After we got him set up we went to my sisters place for about an hour. It was fun to just be and to see my cute little niece and nephew again. It seemed like I hadn't seen them in forever and my nephew is always excited to see his "COUSINS!"

At 6:00 we had to leave so that I could get Tanis fed before he had to go back to the school. We went to Arby's and stayed for all of 5 minutes before we had to leave to get Tanis to the school on time. He had to be there at 6:30 so that the judges could judge with the kids there. We got Tanis where he needed to be and then Lex and I headed back out to the car. I was originally going to go back to my sister's place, but after seeing how crowded the parking lot already was, I decided to just stay put. We were going to sit in the car until Eric arrived, but Lex had to go to the bathroom, and so did I. We went into the school to go to the bathroom and I decided to just stay in the auditorium where a bunch of other parents were waiting.

It was a LOOOOONG wait, but Lex and I played Uno on my phone for awhile, so that helped pass time. Just before 8, Eric arrived with the rest of the kids. The plan was that from 8 to 8:45 parents were able to walk through and view all the projects. We went to get Tanis and then we started to look at some other projects, but with it being as crowded as it was - we just went back to the auditorium to wait for the award part of the night.

The awards were supposed to start at 8:45 and around 8:30 I told Eric we should just leave. While I wanted to believe that my kid would get an award, I was trying to be realistic at the same time. We didn't spend a lot of time on his project and it wasn't extravagent or anything. However, we decided to sit it out.

They got the awards part started at around 8:50. The guy in charge said that there was 300+ projects there that night! Here's where things get a little confusing. He said that they had like 50 Honorable Mention type awards and then 70 that would be going on to the Area Fair or whatever at BYU. That sounded backwards to us, but whatever.

Eric thinks that maybe there was only 70 kids total that got awards, I think it was 120. But neither of us really kept track.

The only thing we cared about was hearing Tanis' name called. And.....it finally was! They guy even pronounced his name right. Tanis was one of the Honorable Mentions! He was sooo excited and he couldn't wipe the smile off his face. I missed the opportunity to get a picture of him placing the medal on his neck as I was holding Ailey and the camera was on a weird setting. However, I did get these pics:

Sadly, I think there was only 2 awards given to kids from our school. And both of those were only honorable mentions. Oh well. I am just happy my kid got one of them.

When we got home I snapped these pics of Tanis and his medal:

He was so proud and excited about his win that he even insisted on wearing his medal to school today.

Good job Tanis!

Le Jour De L'amour

Posted by with 1 comment
So this post is only 2 weeks late in coming, but at least it's getting posted, right???

For those of you that aren't very good with French the title of this post is The Day of Love, which means I am talking about Valentine's Day. WOOT! WOOT!

Our kids were SPOILED this Valentine's Day. My parents gave them a bag of goodies including a straw and bubbles. My older sister gave them their own thing of Crush soda and a bag of candy. Eric's parents gave them these:

(Aren't they cute?) In these bags were a few things of fruit snacks, some candy and cards with a $10 bill. That's right Eric's parents gave each of the kids $10. The kids had a blast choosing toys to buy with their money.

As for me, I was surprised with this:

Necklace

Eric always does an awesome job and always ends up surprising me. He decided to give it to me the night of the 13th because he works from early morning until late at night.

ON Valentine's Day the kids and I did our traditional cookies:

Nate Cookies

Lex Cookies

Shaylyn Cookies

Tanis Cookies

Finished Cookies

Ailey, was just hanging around:

Ailey

As for Eric's gift - well, I made these for him:

Love Dice

And yes, he really liked them - although he has yet to use them. ;)

We had a great Valentine's Day this year and I hope the rest of you did as well!

Oh, Baby!

My nephew was blessed this past Sunday. It was such a neat experience and I am so glad we were able to be there. After the blessing we headed to my sister in laws parents home for a yummy brunch. While we were there we got these pics:

These are the 2010 babies in the family. Ailey is 1st and is now 9 months old, M comes next and she is 8 months old, C brings up the end and he is 3 months old. It has been so fun for my mom to have all these babies in the family!

I think these pictures are funny because they show personality...Ailey didn't really want to be bothered, M had just woken up from a nap and was really mad that we thought we should get pics, and in true boy style C was just so chill!

Oh, by the way - that's my big sis in the picture with the babies. She is such an awesome aunt and no, none of the babies belong to her.

30 Days of Blog Posts: Day 30

It's me again...A day late and a dollar short - story of my life.

Anyway here is DAY 30 - WHO ARE YOU?

This question has always been a hard one for me because quite honestly, I really don't know who I am. It is something I struggle with on a daily basis and one that causes a lot of concern from my super, terrific hubby.

However, there was a song I heard years ago that I actually agree with. The video and lyrics are below.

VIDEO:
(If you have trouble getting the video to load on the blog, you can double click in the middle of the screen or on the name and it'll take you to YouTube to view it)

LYRICS:

If I live to be a hundred
and never see the seven wonders
that'll be alright
If I don't make it to the big leagues
If I never win a grammy
I'm gonna be just fine
Cause I know exactly who I am

Chorus:
I am Rosemary's granddaughter

the spitting image of my father

and when the day is done
my momma's still my biggest fan

Sometimes I'm clueless and I'm clumsy
but I've got friends that love me

and they know just where I stand
It's all a part of me
and that's who I am

Verse 2:
So when I make a big mistake
when I fall flat on my face
I know I'll be alright
Should my tender heart be broken

I will cry those teardrops knowin'
I will be just fine
'cause nothin' changes who I am

Chorus:
I am Rosemary's granddaughter
the spitting image of my father
and when the day is done
my momma's still my biggest fan
Sometimes I'm clueless and I'm clumsy
but I've got friends that love me
and they know just where I stand
It's all a part of me
and that's who I am

Bridge:
I'm a saint and I'm a sinner
I'm a loser I'm a winner
I am steady and unstable
I am young but I am able

Chorus:
I am Rosemary's granddaughter
the spitting image of my father
and when the day is done
my momma's still my biggest fan
Sometimes I'm clueless and I'm clumsy
but I've got friends that love me
and they know where I stand
It's all a part of me
and that's who I am

(Repeat Chorus)

That's who I am

DAY 29 - IN THIS PAST MONTH, WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED

Ugh, what have I learned this past month...

#1 - We have crappy cars.
#2 - As much as I am on the computer, it's hard to post something EVERY day.
#3 - My husband is much better at taking care of me when I'm sick, than I am at taking care of him.
#4 - I really HATE science (See previous post)
#5 - I really want a better washer/dryer soon! Maybe it'll actually make me want to do laundry.
(I'm weird that way)
#6 - A month goes by fast.
#7 - I am so happy that February is almost OVER!
