Everything is Awesome!

Well The Lego Movie had been out for awhile and we still hadn't seen it. We had talked about going a few times, but plans just didn't pan out. Other plans came up or we were just too tired to think about taking all 6 kids to a movie.

Then came a Monday - Family Night. I decided we should go see either Frozen or The Lego Movie. Frozen wasn't really playing at any sort of reasonable time for us, so it was The Lego Movie.

It was a movie we all really kind of enjoyed. Jace was even a good baby and allowed me to watch the whole thing.

As we were leaving the theater though, we ran across the cardboard cutout promoting the new Muppet movie. Tanis was first to run behind it wanting a picture. This kind of thing bothers Eric for whatever reason, but I don't mind it, so one at a time we got pictures of the kids.

So, will we see the new Muppet movie? I don't know. Only time will tell.

Time Out For Women

Posted by with No comments
For the past little while my mom has really wanted to take her girls to a Time Out For Women. Well, none of us has really had the funds to blow readily available for the conferences held in the months since she discovered TOFW. For whatever reason, though, she decided enough was enough and in January she asked if us girls were interested. It would have to be our birthday presents for the year, but my Mom could make it work if we wanted it.

I was 100% in. I talked to Eric right away so that he could get the Friday off. The venue we chose was only about an hours drive from my mom's house, but we decided it'd be fun to stay in a hotel since the conference is a Friday night, Saturday day thing. So, it ended up that all I needed to pay for was to chip in for the hotel room and food for the time I was gone. So very inexpensive, all things considered and Eric knew that it would be good for me and was willing to do whatever was necessary to make sure I could get there.

Then came the Strep. I was so sick and so worried I wouldn't feel well enough to go after all was said and done. Thankfully, with modern medicine and lots of prayers I felt just fine when it was time to go. I left around 2:00 on Friday the 21st and headed to my Mom's. We waited for just a little bit for my older sister to get back from a meeting she had to go to and then we were on our way.

We got to the hotel around 4:00, got all checked in and then tried to decide what to do about dinner. The conference started at 6:30, so we wanted to make sure we had time to eat and time to get to the event center.

Due to modern day technology, my little sister grabbed her phone and found places to eat nearby. We finally decided on Outback Steakhouse. I decided to take a picture of my food and send it to Eric to make him just a little bit jealous.

I was kind of dissapointed with my meal. It just wasn't as yummy as I had hoped. We left dinner quickly and headed to the event center. Because the place was packed and there wasn't really anywhere left to park, we dropped my mom and little sister off at the front to go stand in line for us. Meanwhile, my older sister and I found a place to park and went to meet my mom and sister in line.

While we weren't in the front of the place, we had a pretty nice place with a walkway in front of us and a big screen just a few feet in front of us, so it was perfect.

The following are my notes from the speakers and I'm writing them down mostly for my benefit, so that I have a place where I know they're at. These are the things that jumped out at me. They are the things I felt I really needed to hear.

MARIAMA KALLON - Grew up in worn-torn Sierra Leone and witnessed the horrific murders of her family.

- PROVERBS 3: 5-6
"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."
- Heavenly Father knows our wants and desires. He knows us better than we know ourselves!
- ALMA 37:37
"Counsel with the Lord in all thy doings, and he will direct thee for good; yea, when thou liest down at night lie down unto the Lord, that he may watch over you in your sleep; and when thou risest in the morning let thy heart be full of thanks unto God; and if ye do these things, ye shall be lifted up at the last day."
- We're NOT alone.
- HOW FIRM A FOUNDATION - Thomas S. Monson, October 2006
- HELAMAN 5:12 (Her Favorite Scripture)
"And now, my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall."

HEIDI SWINSON - Author and screenwriter with lots of PBS documentaries. Also wrote President Monson's biography.

- Instead of Lead, Kindly Light look at it as Lead! Kindly Light.
- Do you follow that light?
- Parable of the 10 Virgins
- MATTHEW 25:4
"But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps."
- We are light, our heart is our vessel.
- Spend time with those you feel light from.
- Our personal interests help fill our vessel.
- How do you share your time in the temple, sacrament meeting and scripture reading? It's not a relay race.
- DOCTRINE AND COVENANTS 45
  - They Received Truth
     - Alma the Younger speaking of his father's conversion
     - Abinadi kept speaking, even when he was in a fire
     - THE MORAL FORCE OF WOMEN - D. Todd Christofferson, October 2013
     - NO OTHER GODS - Dallin H. Oaks, October 2013
       - Do I have other Gods? What are they?
       - Stop with the "If I Just Had....", what the Lord's given us is all we need.
   - Taken Holy Spirit as Guide
      - President Monson took to visiting the widows in his home ward. One such widow was one of his Primary teachers. He'd take the time to visit with her and feed her. One other person in the nursing home told him to stop wasting his time because she never spoke to anyone. He continued talking to her and patting her hand. At one moment she said, "I know you. You're Tommy Monson. My Primary boy."
     - "Difficulities allow us to change for the better." Thomas S. Monson
     - Heidi faced the difficulty of the death of her newborn
        - JOHN 14:27
"Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."
        - No worldly accolades are worth more than the knowledge of an Eternal Family.
      - Heidi shared the following story: One day in church someone fairly new in the ward, casually asked her how she was. For whatever reason she responded by saying, "I'm going to stop buying socks, they just get lost and you can never find the match." She felt bad for responding in such a way, especially to someone who barely knew her and being the Stake President's wife she didn't want to appear that she couldn't handle what life was giving her at the time.
The next day there was a phone call. Her husband answered it and it was the same lady that had asked how things were the day before. She asked if she could bring dinner every night for the next two weeks. Heidi said her husband immediately said, 'Yes.' But had she answered the phone the answer would've been a direct 'No, I'm okay....'
This lady came every day for the next 2 weeks with a meal. It was a little thing, but it was her way of saying, "I can light your way."
        - Here's What I Can Do To Help (really think about it)
           - Pray!!!

In between the speakers Friday night, Jenny Oaks Baker performed for us. She is a classical violinist and played a few songs for us. In between the song she said a few a words. The things that stood out for me were these:

- We should focus on making sure our own family is running smoothly before we concentrate on the world running smoothly.
- There is the saying that the most important thing a father can do for his kids is to love their mother. She feels its also important that a mother love her children's father and honors his priesthood.
- Happy Father's = Happy Families

When Friday night had concluded we headed back to the hotel. We got up to the room and started to discuss some of us wanting ice cream and if we were going to go back out to get some. Once again, my little sister gets on her phone and finds a frozen yogurt place closeby. We head back down the elevator and see this on the main floor:

The fire alarm was covered with a rubber glove. I don't know how we missed it when we first got back, but we found it hilarious when we did see it. We couldn't figure out why in the world someone would cover it up or why the hotel hadn't taken it down. It was late at night and so that just made it even more hilarious.

After our trip to the frozen yogurt place, we came back and for whatever reason my mom just could not figure out how in the world the glove was attached the the fire alarm. My older sister tried explaining it to her and finally said something like, "It works like a condom." My little sister and I cracked up (we also don't think my mom heard what my older sister said) and I said, "I don't think she even knows how a condom works." Kind of mean, but she didn't hear me and she probably would've laughed if she had.

We get back up to our room and after thinking for it a bit, my older sister says, "You know they probably covered the alarm because of the construction going on." She's smart like that. The alarm probably kept going off because of dust in the air or something, so they covered it up. We went to bed later than we should've, but we had fun.

Saturday started earlier than I would've liked, but I'm not a morning person. We had a quick breakfast in the hotel lobby and then headed out to the conference for the day. I was excited because Jericho Road would be performing. More on that later, though.

So we take seats in the same row we were in the night before and got set for a new day of inspirational words.

MARY ELLEN EDMUNDS - Author and great comedic act

- Saved By A Sunbeam
   - She shared this story about leaving an ice cream shop as a small family was coming in. There were a couple of kids and the older brother she guessed was about 5 or 6 would not leave the little 3 year old sister alone. The parents gave him a few warnings and one of them was that he wouldn't get any ice cream if he didn't stop. Well, he didn't stop and the parents were going to follow through with their punishment when the sister stepped in saying, "He'll be nice, he won't do it again. I promise."
- Jesus STILL wants us for a Sunbeam
- When someone asks how are you, respond with HAPPY
- What is our uniform? Armor of Light

- He died for me, but he came back.

Saturday's speakers were full of fun things to say. I don't think I've laughed so hard, so continuously for a long time. And while that would have been enough, the day wasn't complete without hearing from Jericho Road.

Jericho Road came together as a band in 2001. At the time I was 21, just a few years past being a 'teenager', so I was still in that silly frame of mind when I first saw them. They were fun to watch and sounded great and they sung church music. I was hooked.

I don't think my mom realized they were performing when she got the tickets for us. Nor do I think she realizes just how much I enjoy their sound. So I was super excited that they performed. While they performed their own songs,  they also favored us with a medley of boy band favorites starting with The Jackson 5. Definitely entertaining.

...This guy reminds me of one of Eric's friends...

In between songs members of Jericho Road said a few things here and there. The one note I wrote down was to refer to President Monson's talk, WE NEVER WALK ALONE from October 2013 General Relief Society Meeting.

These were the two songs they performed that stuck with me.

TESTIFY TO LOVE

DON'T HIDE YOUR FACE
I couldn't find a video already made for this song, so I put one together using images found with Google, LDS.org and GregOlsen.com.

This was definitely something I needed. I was glad to have gotten to spend this time with my sisters and my mom. I'm also thankful for a loving, supportive husband who knows my needs. Time Out For Women is something I think I'm going to try to go to more often, it really inspired me and lifted me up.

Love Day 2014

Posted by with No comments
Valentine's Day was pretty low-key this year, pretty much like every year. I'm not really complaining. It's just the way it is.

We, of course, did our traditional Valentine's Day Cookies. I decided to just do the bigger size as it resulted in fewer cookies and less time we'd have to decorate.

Shortly after our cookies were done, we had this wonderful selection delivered to us...

These were pretty much the hit of the day.

When Eric got home I gave him his gift. It wasn't anything major and it definitely wasn't what I had planned, but he made the most of it. What I wanted to get him was the latest Nickelback CD and the soundtrack to the latest Les Mis movie. Well, I'm a procrastinator and shopped the night before and well, I hate Walmart. They never have what I'm in search of. So, instead of what I wanted to get him - I got him a Nickelback Greatest Hits CD and an iTunes gift card. He was appreciative of his gifts and right away he went and downloaded the soundtrack to Les Mis. We discovered that he already had all the songs on the CD I gave him, so we decided that after dinner we'd go back to Walmart to return it and to find something else.

We weren't sure where we wanted to go to eat and I wasn't feeling the greatest, so we decided we'd go to a local steakhouse that usually doesn't have too many people. We lucked out and though the restaurant was full of people, we only waited 5 minutes - if that, for a seat.

We had a good meal and then headed to Walmart. I believe after we returned the CD, we found the Les Mis movie and that's what Eric got. Yes, he had to pay extra - but we were okay with that.

So, what was my gift? Due to an argument a few days before and Eric getting frustrated - I got my gift early. It was an SD card for my phone. What did I need it for? Music. Yeah, I may have a bit too much music.

Would you believe that 15,856,598,970 bytes of that info is music? In other words there is only 70MB of other information on my card. Maybe I do have a problem.

I also gifted Eric and I about a week later. We had talked about (Okay, I talked, he listened - and mostly agreed) needing a new bedding set. Eric told me to go ahead and get one, but I had a hard time deciding just what I wanted. More importantly, I had a hard time being okay with spending the money the companies wanted for the bedding sets I liked.

I finally found one and ordered it and I am so happy with it. Don't know that Eric much cares, but it was my Valentine's gift to both of us. HAHAHA! And it works pretty well with the frames I have hanging up.

Quick Learner

Posted by with No comments
Jace is gonna give me a run for my money. He's such a quick learner and is learning what's important in this family. It all started with this little episode on Wednesday...

'

Then earlier today we get this:

Somebody help me. There is no rescue from the pit that is Minecraft in this house and the baby has now been sucked in. I'm so upset.

For those of you truth seekers: The game controller wasn't even on and the book was placed into his hands by his older brother.

Disney's Agenda

Posted by with 3 comments
I should be in bed, fast asleep. I know I should. But I kept having these thoughts in my head that needed to be addressed. I was trying to fight it, but then the baby woke up wanting to eat and I figured - since I was out of bed, I might as well get this done so my head can relax and maybe then I can sleep.

Dear Well-Behaved Mormon Woman,

Earlier this evening my husband pointed me towards your blog post about Disney's newest movie, Frozen having an agenda about homosexuality. I'll be honest, I didn't read it all the way through - I got bored. Well that, and I was at Instacare waiting for a strep test (it came back positive). I did read enough to know that I am offended however. I am offended that you didn't do more 'research' and realize that ALL Disney movies have agendas. I have yet to see Frozen, not that I haven't wanted to - it just hasn't happened for us yet. That aside, here's a few agendas you've forgotten. Feel free to do blog posts on any of the following. I'd love to see them.

SNOW WHITE & THE SEVEN DWARFS - Breaking And Entering Is Totally Cool.
You've got people that want to kill you? Go ahead and break into the first abandoned home you find. If you're lucky you'll run into complete strangers that are cool with you breaking and entering and they'll totally make you their maid! SIGN ME UP!!!

PINOCCHIO - Do What You Want, It Doesn't Matter, No One Cares And You'll Still Be Totally Okay.
Pinocchio was all about making the wrong choices, wasn't he? Skipping school, hanging out with strangers, going to strange places with said strangers, smoking, gambling and oh, he had a blast didn't he?

BAMBI  - Hunting Is A Manly Man's Privilege, Animals Are Replaceable.
What in the world are animals doing running around in the wild? They should all be hunted and killed for pleasure and hey, you need more space for your human activities? Burn down a forest, even if it's an accident it's a happy accident.

CINDERELLA - Children Should Be Seen, Not Heard And When It Means You Can Be Lazy - Make Them Serve You, Because After All It's Okay To Be Vain.
All of my children are my little servants as well. I sit on the couch eating bon-bons all day while they slave away. I can't ruin my perfect hair or body or hands. I have to look perfect when Mr. Right comes calling at the door.

PETER PAN - Never Grow Up
Growing up is so boring, then you have to do responsible things, like actually go to sleep at night and eat with some sort of schedule. Also it means less play time with the boys.

LADY AND THE TRAMP - Fall In Love With Whomever You Please, It'll All Work Out In The End
Pay no attention that your crush is from the wrong side of the tracks. He's a handsome little devil and you should make him your own. It helps if there's a plate of spaghetti involved.

SLEEPING BEAUTY - Involve Yourself In The Occult
Witches, dark magic, horrible spells...It has it all.

101 DALMATIONS - Wear Fur. White Fur With Perfect Black Spots. Do Not Spay/Neuter Pets.
Everyone wants to wear the best fur available, especially when they know it comes from Dalmations and there is absolutely NO NEED to spay and neuter your animals because gosh, everyone wants a plantation of dogs running around.

MARY POPPINS - Magic Nanny's Exist
Don't want to clean your room, that's okay - when you have a magic nanny she just teaches you the right way to use her magic and you only have to lift a tiny, little finger.

THE RESCUERS - Orphans Are Dirty
No one wants an orphan, except for jewel thieves. The only friends a poor orphan can really have are a set of mice and we all know that mice are dirty little creatures - ergo, orphans are dirty.

THE FOX AND THE HOUND - Never Befriend Someone Of Another Race/Color. It'll Never Work Out.
Yup, we should all just stick to the people we're familiar with. The people in the past were so spot on with this agenda.

THE LITTLE MERMAID - Disobedience And Stealing - Lessons Every Teen Needs To Know.
Teens always listen to their parents, always. There's nothing wrong with stealing when you call it 'collecting'.

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST - It's Okay To Befriend Wild, Hairy Animals - Maybe Even Fall In Love.
I think the all the heterosexual women in the world really got swayed by this agenda. Most women I know fell in love with and married a wild, hairy animal. Guess we really need to address this issue.

ALADDIN - Stealing And Taking Drugs Are The Way To The Princess' Heart.
Aladdin was a thief, we know that. But he was also a druggie. Genie was just a hallucination and the whole magic carpet ride, meeting and falling in love with a princess - it was all just a sweet, drug induced coma.

LION KING - Kill Everyone You Know To Make It To The Top.
Kill your brother, send your nephew packing, turn your back on the friends who helped you get to the top and when your nephew returns to kill you, you will think to yourself, "Ah, I taught him well."

TOY STORY - If You're Gay, Act Tough And Macho And No One Will Know.
Can't you just feel the sexual tension between Buzz and Woody. UGH. And oh my gosh! They sleep in the SAME toy chest at night. The NERVE!

THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME - Gypsies Are Evil. They Will Always Be Evil.
How can you trust anyone that moves around so much, dances all the time and has a pet goat? The shame.

HERCULES - Worship False Gods.
There is no Heavenly Father and Satan. Only Zeus and Hades and a whole slew of other gods who make this world pleasant or painful for us.

MULAN - Disobey and Become A Cross-Dresser.
Again, even teen likes to obey. And every teen should dress according to their gender.

TANGLED - Your Hair Is Magical, Never Cut It.
All those chics walking around with pixie cuts are ruined forever. Their magical powers are gone, gone I tell you. Oh wait, maybe their magic is only in their tears. Either way we need to get rid of the magic. Magic is a bad thing.

I could go on, but I'm tired. Those were just a 'few' agendas I thought of quickly. Yes, they are as ridiculous as they sound. No, I'm not serious about anything I just said. I think your post is just as silly. After seeing the movie 1 time you already had it in your head that there was an agenda to it - so of course, when you see it 2 and 3 times you'll find more information to back up YOUR AGENDA.

I really give kudos to you for standing up for something you believe in, I seriously do. But, I feel bad you're going to be standing alone. Although I guess you're not technically 'alone'. You said you had one friend that agreed with you. Not family and friendS, friend. I hope you two enjoy each other and the dark things you find in this world.

My family, friends and I prefer to find the good in the world. So even if Disney has agenda's written into their movies (most of which kids won't get until they're grown, anyway), we choose to seek the 'beautiful and lovely' things of the world. We prefer to see these kinds of messages:

SNOW WHITE & THE SEVEN DWARFS - Strangers Helping Strangers (The Good Samaritan)

PINOCCHIO - Learn From Your Mistakes

BAMBI  - Animals Are God's Creation

CINDERELLA - There Is Good In The World
And no, my children really ARE NOT treated as servants. If anything, they treat me as a servant.

PETER PAN - Childhood Is Only Fun For So Long, Family Is Important

LADY AND THE TRAMP - Never Judge A Book By It's Cover

SLEEPING BEAUTY - Evil Is Tricky, You Need To Be On Guard At All Times, Innocence

101 DALMATIONS - Animal Rights

MARY POPPINS - While Magic Nanny's Don't Exist, There Are Lots Of Lessons To Learn. (Cleaning is more enjoyable if you finds ways to make it fun)
I'm still working on this one, but it's still what I choose to take away.

THE RESCUERSJesus Said Love Everyone

THE FOX AND THE HOUNDMake Friends Wherever You Go - You Never Know When You Might Need Them Again

THE LITTLE MERMAID - Rely On Good Friends For Help, Don't Be Afraid To Admit Your Mistakes, Be Open And Honest With Your Loved Ones.

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST - Love Others That Are Different. There Is Always Something Super Special About Them.
BTW - I absolutely love my wild, hairy animal of a husband. He's my best friend.

ALADDINEven If Life's Dealt You A Nasty Hand, You Can Make A Better Life For Yourself, Honesty.

LION KING - Your Family Is Always There For You (The Prodigal Son)

TOY STORYTrue Friendship Never Ends

THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME - Love And Accept People's Disabilities, God Made Each Of Us Special, Everyone Needs To Feel Loved

HERCULESLearn Who You Are And What You're Made Of. Never Forget Who You Are.

MULAN - Loyalty, The Value Of Family And Love, Courage

TANGLED Stand Up For Yourself, Remember Where You Come From

And from what I've heard about FROZEN, it's also all about FAMILY!

If you want to believe that Disney has a homosexual agenda with Frozen, go on and keep believing it. You're entitled to your opinions. All I'm trying to say is that you can find darkness anywhere if you look for it. I did it in about 10 minutes.

And please, don't write some funky blog post about the movies I mentioned above. If you do, I may just have to write another middle of the night passive-aggressive letter to you.

                                                                                                     Sincerely,

Six Months

On the 9th of this month Jace turned 6 months old. Seriously can't believe he's been on this earth for half a year already. They grow so fast. So being his 6 month birthday I took him for his check-up on the 12th.

While we got put into the room fairly quickly, waiting for the Dr. was another story. I've never had to wait as long as we did for this visit.

We kept busy during our wait though. Jace was making the cutest faces and sticking his tongue out and so I snapped a few photos.

After awhile the Dr. came in and started to do the check-up. At one point he asks if Jace has developed the 'Stranger Danger' fear yet. I laugh it off and say no. So the Dr. goes to pick Jace up and take him to the table to check his belly and man parts and Jace gets the look of fear on his face and starts crying. Thanks for turning me into a liar, little bud.

The check up goes well and just like his Daddy, this boy is tall and thin. He is 27 3/4 inches tall (89%) and weighs 16 lbs. 5 oz. (24%). Then come the shots. Poor kid. He does not handle shots well at all.

The rest of the night he wasn't a very happy camper and just wanted to be loved. But at one point in the night he took a real interest in Flower and it was seriously the only thing that made him happy. He was laughing and smiling. So Daddy kept Flower close by and we even let Jace give her a treat.

I suppose the phrase is true. "Dog is Man's (Boy's) Best Friend."
