Lexism #2

Posted by with 1 comment
Lex did it again....This time he said something really hilarious though...

TANIS: Can I play outside?

ERIC: No because Mom is going to be going somewhere, and I have to go to work and we just need to know where everyone is.

TANIS: Where is Mom going?

SHILO: Just down the street.

LEX: Who's going to watch us?

SHILO: Your father.

LEX: Which father????

This was just too funny not to share....And as a teaser the following pic from Boondocks. This is just one picture Eric's mom emailed me. We are heading there tomorrow and I plan to get all the pics I can and share the cutest ones.

Bragging Rights

So, I have these two little nephews. Yes, believe it or not I only have two nephews and no nieces...

Both of these boys have blonde hair and blue eyes, but aren't related to each other.

They are both the cutest boys ever and I love having them as nephews.

However, one nephew lives out of state and we don't get to see him very often. But, the other nephew only lives about an hour away and his mom (my little sis) is willing to drive out quite a bit to see us. Friday was one of those nights.

My little sister is addicted to her cell phone (sorry, sis - it's true) and has a crap load of songs on it. Her little boy loves to listen to the music that she plays on her phone and it's always hilarious to see what my nephew will end up doing.

Friday night he decided to sing along to the chorus - it was too cute to not record and share. Pay attention to the cute blonde kid (why can't I have any blondies?). My kids are just being their wild selfs - pay no mind to them.

And for anyone who doesn't know, (I didn't) the song is called, "Around the World (La la la la la)" by ATC or A Touch of Class.

A Lexism

Posted by with 1 comment

I forgot to post this yesterday, but really wanted to share. This was a moment where Alexander put me in my place.

How I am remembering it at 7 in the morning, the day after the fact, is beyond me...

So this happened yesterday as we were leaving the grocery store and because it was so cold and rainy, I said the following:

ME: Who said we could have winter?
LEX: Jesus.

There was no pause or anything thinking of his answer, he just blurted it right out...Guess I should be more careful as to who I say things to....

Guess Who's Missing?

Posted by with 2 comments
If you guessed Eric, you are right.

On Friday he found out he would be heading to D.C., again, on Sunday.

Eric works with a company that does some contract work for the Department of Defense. So the last time he was called out there it was to test some servers for some errors and then correct the errors. We all know how things went that time around and I thought all was well.

Well Friday morning he finds out that the Department of Defense guy that was the "witness" to what they did on the server - stepped down. Apparently his wife was diagnosed with terminal cancer and he wanted to be with her or whatever.

So, Eric had to leave to go to all the tests again in front of the new guy so that he knew what was going on.

I am sad to say that even though I knew why Eric had to go out there again, I was ticked. Partly because I was afraid of a longer trip than originally planned. And guess what, I just found out that instead of him being home Tuesday, he won't be home until Thursday.

Anyway Eric and I got into this argument about it and why I was so upset. During the course of the argument I told him that he had it easy. (For the most part, he only has to work until 4 and the rest of the time is his to do as he pleases. Me, I have 4 little bosses demanding something almost every minute)

Eric then said one thing that really made me stop and think. He said, "I would love to be able to stay home and snuggle with the kids."

Staying home is something I take for granted way too much. I don't usually take the time to think of how blessed I am to be home for my kids and to watch them learn and grow. It is something I have to constantly remind myself of. It is a blessing and not a curse.

Anyway, so Sunday came and Eric left early in the morning. I debated about going to church by myself with the 4 kids, but knew it was where I was supposed to be, so headed out. Halfway through Sacrament meeting, I was wondering why I was there. (Sorry again, Balls & Hackings) The kids do not behave real well unless Eric is there and I didn't have a lot of free arms as Nathaniel needed attention. So what do I do? Let the baby scream his head off or wrestle with the 3 older kids who know better? Neither one is real reverent...I was at a loss.

We make it through Sacrament meeting and the kids head to Primary and I head to Sunday School & Relief Society.

The lesson in Sunday School kinda went in one ear and out the other except for one quote that just floored me. It is as follows:

"Love is a potent healer. Realizing that, Satan would separate you from the power of the love of God, kindred, and friends, who want to help. He would lead you to feel that the walls are pressing in around you and there is no escape or relief. He wants you to believe you lack the capacity to help yourself and that no one else is really interested. If he succeeds, you will be driven to further despair and heartache. His strategy is to have you think you are not appreciated, loved, or wanted so that you in despair will turn to self-critisism and in the extreme even to despising yourself and feeling evil when you are not."

- Richard G. Scott

In Relief Society the lesson was about the letters Joseph Smith wrote to Emma while he was away. Joseph Smith was away quite a bit and left his wife and little family a lot. It was brought out that we are kind of lucky to live in such a technological age but at the same time it's kind of sad because the art of writing letters is lost.

This lesson hit me hard. How lucky am I that I can chat with my husband or even video chat with him while he is away. I don't have to wait weeks for a letter to hear how he was on Sunday and so forth.

In short, I am so thankful I actually went to church on Sunday and for the lessons that were presented. It was kind of the kick in the pants that I needed. Quit feeling sorry for myself and realize that I really don't have it as bad as I like to make it out to be.

Feelin' A Wee Bit Creative...Again

Posted by with 2 comments
So there is this show that plays on Nick Jr. that my kids like to watch. It is called Ni Hao, Kai-Lan. It is about a Chinese American girl and all the adventures she has with her friends and the lessons she learns.
Anyway the other day Lex was watching it while I was cleaning the house and I thought that I would try to do Shaylyn's hair like Kai-Lan's.

So yesterday, I tried it. It turned out really cute, but by the end of the day it was a mess. If I do it again I would pin down the "buns" a little more. Live and Learn.

Perhaps I will just stick to following all the other "hair blogs" out there. :D

Feeling Inspired

So today I had a family baby shower to attend.

The day I received the invite, I had been getting stuff ready for the Preschool using my Cricut and I just happened to be using a cute teddy bear.

So when I saw this invite (yes, I erased vital info):

And just so I don't get in trouble about any copyrights or anything, apparently the invite was done by a company called Tiny Prints. Check out the website at www.tinyprints.com.

I knew exactly how I wanted to make the card (if I got time to do so). Well this morning I had about an hour before I needed to leave and decided I would make the card. This is how it turned out:
Not as great as I imagined in my head, but it was cute enough.

Happy Halloween

Posted by with 1 comment
Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. I like to say that I am basically happy from October to Mid January because all my fave holidays are in that time frame.

It's one of those things I can't explain why I enjoy it so much, especially since my mother hates it. Go figure...

I was getting excited to see all the cute kids in their costumes as Thursday I got a sneak peek with the Preschool kids and then that night at the Halloween carnival.

So around noon on Friday, the little boys and I head to the school for the Halloween Parade. We had to wait for a bit before the parade started, so I took a picture of my boys.

We waited and waited and waited...Finally the parade started and we waited for Tanis & Shaylyn to come through. I wasn't seeing either kid and then I heard a familiar voice call, "Mom!" I looked and saw Tanis just as his class was leaving - I have no idea how I missed him.

We waited some more to see Shaylyn and she just never came through. The parade was over and I didn't see Shaylyn's class at all! So I went down the hall and pulled her out of her class for a moment to get a picture. I then went down to Tanis' class and did the same with him.

I am going to go off on a tangent here, so if you don't feel like reading this part - feel free to skip to the next paragraph or two...

Friday morning, while I was still lying in bed and the kids were getting up I heard Shaylyn crying and saying something to the effect of she wasn't going to be able to be in the parade. I wasn't sure I heard her right and just shook it off. Then before she left for school she told me her teacher said they weren't going to be doing the parade because two boys in her class don't celebrate Halloween. I thought for sure she misunderstood her teacher and sent her off to school.

Now you know the story that she DIDN'T participate in the parade and Eric and I are ticked. We are tempted to file a complaint (sounds so formal) at the school because of it. I haven't done so yet partly because I am scared and partly because I am not sure if Shaylyn's was the only class to not participate...I am somewhat sure the older kids don't participate, but kids Shaylyn's age just don't understand. I also don't want to cause a situation with the teacher if she thought what she was doing was best.

But why should my daughter have to feel like she is being punished because of someone else's beliefs. But in a situation like this where most of the students do celebrate Halloween, something else needed to be done. Don't misunderstand me - I totally think those people have the right to believe what they will, but it should not handicap the rest of the world.

The parents could have kept those children home, or someone could have sat with the kids while the rest of the class participated. I just don't think it's fair that because my daughter got the crumb luck to be in a class with those students, she wasn't able to participate in something. Guess maybe I am just a bit overprotective or something.

Anyway, after the kids got home from school, we straightened up the house, had dinner and got all decked out to go trick-or-treating.

Eric had to work this year so I had to get all 4 kids ready and out the door. I forgot to light the pumpkins and decided against sticking the candy outside the door. I wanted to have some when we got home.

I so misjudged that. We have so much candy now, it's ridiculous. So any of you in the ward who's kids missed our house, send 'em on over.

We had a good night and I was glad that it was such a nice night (even with the rain). Nathaniel did great and decided to take a nap the whole time the other kids wanted to trick or treat. They lasted about 2 hours and they were done.

As soon as Lex walked in the door he dumped his candy out, this did not fly. We put it all back in his bag and I told him he could choose 3 pieces and then it was up and out of the way for the night. Shaylyn also had her candy dumped out, but she was counting hers! I think the total she came up with was 106 or something. I had to laugh that she was counting the candy.

All in all it was a good night, and when I went to bed - I fell asleep fast!
